Thomas Tuchel has confirmed a fresh injury blow for Tammy Abraham with the Chelsea forward having suffered a reoccurrence of the injury that has kept the star sidelined in recent fixtures.

Abraham has missed the club’s past four Premier League fixtures and was absent once again for Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, the west London side securing their place in the last four with a routine win at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel has now confirmed the reasoning for the 23-year-old’s absence and says Abraham suffered a repeat of his previous issue in training, revealing he expects the England international to ‘be out for many games’ following his latest problem.

“It was an accident in training,” he said at his post-match press conference. “He quit after only five minutes of the warm-up and it is more or less on the same spot as where the first injury was.

“We thought he was going to be in the squad for today but now he will be out for many games.

“He has to take it step by step. The way back is for him to be a substitute and be hungry and show it in training.”

Tuchel also revealed the reason for Edouard Mendy’s absence against Sheffield United, the goalkeeper requiring an operation on his tooth that will prevent the star joining up with Senegal during the upcoming international break.
