Sevilla are reportedly demanding more than €50m for Chelsea target Jules Kounde, as the club attempts to make further additions before the window closes on Tuesday evening.
In comparison to last summer it’s been a relatively quiet window for the Blues in terms of incomings, with the only major outlay so far being the £97.5m spent on Romelu Lukaku, the Belgian international marking his return to the club with a goal on his debut against Arsenal at the weekend.
Under Frank Lampard last year, the club brought in six major summer signings in the form of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Benjamin Mendy and Hakim Ziyech, with their total spend upwards of £200m.
While they’d be forgiven for having a more tame window this time around, it looks set to be a busy end to the summer for Thomas Tuchel’s side, as the club continues to pursue further additions.
As per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in talks with Sevilla for defender Jules Kounde, albeit with negotiations reaching a sticking point with the Spanish side demanding more than €50m if they are to part ways with the centre-back.
The Frenchman – who featured for his country at Euro 2020 – is seemingly the Blues top defensive target as they look to strengthen their backline, having allowed Kurt Zouma to depart for London rivals West Ham United in the past week.

Just 22, Kounde is a player for the long-term, yet has already gained plenty of experience in recent seasons, having helped his current club win the Europa League in 2020, notably beating Manchester United in the semi-final.
While he has had admiring glances from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, it would seem that it is Tuchel and co who are leading the race for his signature and are looking to find a ‘solution’ to the current ‘tense situation’ with Julien Lopetegui’s side in order to sign the defender.
The former Bordeaux youngster may not be the only potential incoming at Stamford Bridge before the deadline, as recent reports suggest that a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez is also on the cards.
While he didn’t refer to either man by name, Blues boss Tuchel did confirm that the club are trying to bring in new signings before the window closes.
