Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Chelsea are still ‘trying’ to secure new signings before the transfer window shuts next week.
Chelsea secured the club-record signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan earlier this summer and the west London side are pressing ahead with plans to add to their squad before the August 31 deadline.
Tuchel’s side have held talks with Sevilla over a deal for defender Jules Kounde, with Kurt Zouma’s anticipated move to West Ham set to pave the way for the arrival of the centre-back.
Chelsea have also been linked with the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez and, speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Liverpool, Tuchel confirmed his side remain in the hunt for new additions.
“We still have some ideas and we are trying,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“Not all decisions are taken regarding also our squad. There are some negotiations going on and we are aware of all the situations.
“But also I’m happy with the squad as it is, and I have a lot of confidence we are absolutely competitive on a high level.
“All eyes are open, we are aware of all situations and you never know in football.”
Tuchel provided an update on Zouma’s proposed switch to West Ham, with the defender having reportedly undergone a medical in France ahead of a £25m move to the London Stadium.
The German revealed Zouma was currently absent with ‘personal issues’, but confirmed negotiations are continuing with the Hammers.
“There are negotiations between West Ham and Chelsea about Kurt,” said Tuchel.
“Kurt right now is not with us but not because of these negotiations. He’s had some personal and family issues. There are negotiations but to be very honest I don’t know where that leads right now. Those things can happen at this stage.”
