Ranking the five favourites to sign Antonio Rudiger

Antonio Rudiger’s future remains uncertain with Chelsea running out of time to agree a new deal with the defender, his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Europe’s elite are monitoring the situation of the Germany international at Stamford Bridge, with Rudiger having been an integral figure to Chelsea’s recent success under Thomas Tuchel.

The 28-year-old has produced some fine performances for the west Londoners in recent months and will not be short of offers should a new contract not materialise at Chelsea, whilst he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides when the transfer window opens next month.

So for those of you interested in the latest odds on Vulkan Bet, we’ve decided to look at how the bookmakers assess the race to sign Rudiger.

Here are the five favourites to sign the centre-back from Chelsea.

Manchester City – 25/1

Manchester City have been priced at 25/1 outsiders to sign Rudiger from Chelsea, in what would represent a shock signing for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Premier League champions are currently well-stocked with defensive personnel, with Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Ake currently amongst City’s centre-back options.

The signing of a new centre-back does not appear a priority at the Etihad at present, though their stance could change should any of their current defenders move on at the end of the season.

Laporte was linked with a move to Spain after falling out of favour last season, but has regained a regular role in Guardiola’s plans this term to start 14 league fixtures in 2021/22. Ake could potentially seek a new challenge at the end of the season, having failed to command regular minutes since his arrival from Bournemouth in 2020.

Bayern Munich – 16/1

Bayern Munich have been credited as suitors for Rudiger in recent months, a deal that would see the Germany international make a return to the Bundesliga.

Bayern are yet to agree a contract extension with Niklas Sule and the centre-back will be free to leave the Bundesliga champions on a free transfer next summer, several Premier League sides reportedly interested in the imposing 26-year-old defender.

Rudiger would represent a ready-made replacement for his international teammate, though there are doubts over whether Bayern are willing to match the defender’s contract demands.

Rudiger’s representatives are believed to be seeking a lucrative deal in what could be the last major contract of the centre-back’s career, demands which could price out Bayern who will not break their wage structure to secure his signing.

Paris Saint-Germain – 10/1

Paris Saint-Germain are 10/1 third-favourites to sign Rudiger from Chelsea, having previously been a transfer target for the French side during Thomas Tuchel’s time at the Parc des Princes.

PSG have struggled for clean sheets this season and have conceded in five of their past seven league fixtures, with the summer signing of Sergio Ramos having failed to solve their issues as the veteran centre-back struggles with injury issues.

The Parisians secured several high-profile names through free agency last summer, including deals for Ramos, Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Georginio Wijnaldum, and could make Rudiger their latest Bosman purchase.

PSG possess the resources to hand Rudiger a huge contract and can provide the centre-back with a platform to continue challenging for major honours.

Manchester United – 8/1

Those of you that follow football bets online will know that Manchester United have emerged as shock candidates to raid their divisional rivals for Rudiger, as interim manager Ralf Rangnick begins to overhaul his squad at Old Trafford.

United have struggled defensively this season with Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof all failing to convince, whilst summer signing Raphael Varane has spent much of the campaign on the treatment table.

Rudiger would represent an upgrade on the Red Devils’ current options with the German having been one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs across the past 12 months, with his recovery speed and aggression providing a different profile.

Losing the centre-back to a Premier League rival would be disappointing for Chelsea, who will hope to agree new terms with Rudiger and keep him out of the clutches of their domestic challengers.

Real Madrid – 5/1

Real Madrid are the favourites to sign Rudiger from Chelsea and have been priced at odds of just 5/1 by the bookmakers, reports having suggested that the defender has reached an ‘informal agreement’ to move to the Spanish capital.

There was mass change in Los Blancos’ defence last summer as stalwarts Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos departed for new challenges, with David Alaba arriving from Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

Rudiger’s signing would represent another significant coup on a free, adding to a contingent that includes Alaba and the ever-improving Eder Militao, the latter having been in superb form for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season.

Rudiger’s arrival would add quality and competition for places to a Real Madrid side in transition from a successful era, whilst it would also provide Ancelotti with the option to use Alaba elsewhere with the Austria international equally comfortable at left-back and in midfield.
