Newcastle eye move for Man Utd linked Haidara

Newcastle are considering an ‘ambitious’ move to sign Amadou Haidara from RB Leipzig as the club look to strengthen their squad this month.

Haidara is on the club’s radar as Newcastle look to make several signings in January, having already secured the arrival of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.

Eddie Howe’s side have also triggered the release clause in Chris Wood’s contract at Burnley and the Mail are reporting that a move for Haidara is now also being considered.

The Mali international has been linked with Manchester United this month and the Magpies’ ambitious move would see the 23-year-old become the highest-paid player at St James’ Park, should the club be able to convince the midfielder to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League.

Haidara has a release clause of £33m that will become active next summer and the report says that Newcastle will have to pay significantly more to secure a deal in January.

Haidara is currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations and has made more than 100 appearances for Leipzig since his arrival from Red Bull Salzburg.

He has been mentioned as a potential transfer target for Manchester United given the presence of former Red Bull director of football Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford and the club’s need for midfield reinforcements.
