Chelsea host Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, looking to make it three consecutive Premier League wins in the London derby.
Xabi Alonso’s side are fourth in the table with 13 points from seven games, five points behind second-placed Arsenal, having beaten Bournemouth and Everton in their last two outings to make it four wins, one draw and two defeats from their opening seven matches. Mike Penders is set to become Chelsea’s youngest-ever goalkeeper to start a Premier League match, continuing in place of the injured Emiliano Martinez.
Chelsea team news
Emiliano Martinez is out after surgery on a broken jaw sustained in the win at Everton, and joins Reece James (knee), Jamie Gittens (ankle), Pep Chavarria and Emmanuel Emegha on the sidelines. Malo Gusto is a doubt with illness, though no other fresh concerns have emerged elsewhere in the squad. Penders will continue in goal in Martinez’s absence, with the 20-year-old set to become the club’s youngest-ever Premier League starting goalkeeper.
Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson are set to continue as the midfield pairing that has featured in each of Chelsea’s last two wins. Cole Palmer retains his place in an advanced central role, having been directly involved in five goals in as many league appearances against Tottenham, three goals and two assists among them. Morgan Rogers is expected to support him, with Pedro Neto and Jorrel Hato providing width as wing-backs and João Pedro continuing as the focal point in attack. Josh Acheampong is set to continue on the right of a back three alongside Maxence Lacroix and Levi Colwill, the trio unchanged from the win over Everton.
Chelsea predicted lineup
Chelsea possible starting XI (3-4-2-1): Penders; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill; Neto, Caicedo, Henderson, Hato; Palmer, Rogers; Pedro
