‘Trust in him’ – Lucas believes Mourinho is ‘the right man’ to steer Spurs to Premier League title

Lucas Moura insists Jose Mourinho is ‘the right man’ to lead Tottenham to the Premier League title and has urged the squad to ‘trust’ in the manager’s methods.

The north London side have enjoyed a strong start to the season and head into this weekend’s fixtures as Premier League leaders, sitting ahead of champions Liverpool on goal difference following last weekend’s 2-0 win over Manchester City.

Spurs’ impressive start – which included a 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United – has raised optimism that the club could challenge for the title this season, though Mourinho was keen to downplay title talk following the victory over City last weekend.

Moura, however, reckons his side should be growing in confidence following their recent performances and says that Mourinho is ‘the right man’ to end the club’s wait for silverware, insisting his side are capable of winning the Premier League this season if they begin to believe in their chances.

“We are building a very good mentality for the season and we made very good signings in the summer,” Lucas said at a press conference ahead of his sides Europa League tie with Ludogorets tonight.

“We know how difficult it is but why not to think to win the Premier League? We have the capacity to win. Every game that we play, every time we are on the pitch, we need to think we are able to win the Premier League.

“Mourinho wants to win a trophy here. He knows we are capable of winning. We have all that we need to win. He’s the right man to bring us to the trophy. We just need to trust in him and believe in ourselves. Now is the time. We have a great manager, we have great players and we need to speak about this.

“I have a very good feeling about this season. We need to think of every game like a final. We need to believe and trust in our team, our club and believe it’s possible because in football everything is possible.”
