Haaland stance on Spain move revealed amid uncertain Man City future

Erling Haaland is keen to test himself in LaLiga and is expected to end up in Spain at some point in his career.

Haaland has long held the ambition to challenge himself in multiple leagues and is eyeing LaLiga as his next destination, when the time comes to leave the Premier League.

A move for the Manchester City striker could be accelerated by the outcome of City’s charges for financial breaches, after the club were found guilty of historic rule-breaking. City have appealed the decision and deny all wrongdoing.

According to Marca’s transfer journalist, Matteo Moretto, Haaland is keen on a LaLiga move at some stage, but is undecided between Barcelona and Real Madrid as a destination of choice. Both sides would be keen to sign the Norwegian should he be available.

At present, City are in a position of strength after Haaland signed a huge nine-and-a-half-year extension in January of last year. There are not understood to be any release clauses in the contract, though heavy punishment for City – including a potential points deduction that could lead to Premier League relegation – could force their hand.

Barcelona remain keen to sign an elite centre-forward, following Robert Lewandowski’s departure in the summer. The Spanish champions failed with a bid to sign Haaland’s former City teammate, Julian Alvarez, from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Haaland has scored 175 goals in 209 games for City since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, winning three Premier League Golden Boots.
