Chelsea have unveiled their latest home shirt for the new season and it’s fair to say the design has caused quite the stir.
With a flame-inspired pattern, it’s certainly something a little unique for the West Londoners in 2024-25. Following the launch of the latest strip, we’ve decided to look back at some memorable Chelsea kits from the Premier League era.
Here are five of the best Chelsea kits of the Premier League era.
Chelsea home shirt (1997-99)
Chelsea fans are often subjected to jibes of how their ‘history’ began post-Roman Abramovich but the West Londoners’ side of the late nineties is one fondly remembered before the Russian’s regime.
Gianfranco Zola and Gianluca Vialli were the big names in the squad, as Chelsea competed well in cup competitions and lifted the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
The Umbro x Autoglass era delivered this classic strip, a lovely look that has become one of the biggest Chelsea collectables.

Chelsea home (2001-03)
Onto the early noughties and the shirt worn when Chelsea’s future changed forever.
Billed as ‘the £20m match’ as Chelsea and Liverpool went head-to-head in a final day Champions League qualification shootout, the win – courtesy of that Jesper Gronkjaer goal – proved to be worth much more than that.
This smart strip with a neat collar and traditional Chelsea crest is a beauty from the Blues.

Chelsea away (2004-05)
Gronkjaer’s goal paved the path for Chelsea’s transformative takeover and 2004-05 was the campaign the club were crowned Premier League champions for the first time.
Chelsea’s home, away and third strips were all stylish shirts during that title-winning campaign, but we’ve got a special soft spot for black jerseys here. The black and silver combination is a delight.
Few of you asking what Chelsea stuff I got for Christmas…
Only thing I got but what an absolute gem the 2004-05 away kit is ???? pic.twitter.com/buzEf8F8Ea

Chelsea home shirt (2012-13)
After Chelsea’s aforementioned title success in 2004-05, the Blues brought out a gold-trimmed shirt in celebration the following season.
Seven years later and on the back of a maiden Champions League triumph, the Blues did so again with their 2012-13 shirt perhaps their best of the Premier League era.
A Europa League triumph under the hugely unpopular Rafael Benitez might not give this kit quite the same nostalgic feel as others on this list, but from a pure aesthetic, it’s definitely hard to beat.

Chelsea fourth (2019-20)
Nike released a special Chelsea Cup shirt during the 2019-20 campaign, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the club’s first FA Cup triumph.
An almost entire royal blue look with a golden yellow lion and CFC crest, this was superbly stylish from the American sportswear giant.
