Edgar Davids rose through the famous academy system at Ajax as part of a talented young side in the nineties, one that enjoyed huge success under Louis van Gaal.
It was Van Gaal who nicknamed the young midfielder ‘The Pitbull’ for his tenacity and style of play in the Dutch side’s engine room, though there was much more to Davids’ game with the star both combative and creative.
Davids made 154 appearances for Ajax during his first spell with the club and scored 31 goals, before enjoying a career spent at some of Europe’s elite with stints at Juventus, Barcelona and both Milan clubs.
Amongst his best goals was this impressive solo effort during a 3-0 victory over rivals Feyenoord in November 1992, the midfielder bursting forward from the centre of the pitch before firing past Ed de Goey.
Here is Edgar Davids brilliant run and finish for Ajax against Feyenoord.
