Arsenal’s Tierney ‘a better defensive player’ than Liverpool’s Robertson

John Hartson believes Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney is ‘a better defensive player’ than Liverpool counterpart Andy Robertson.

Tierney completed a £25m move to the Premier League from Celtic this summer, though the Scotland international has made just two appearances for his new club following his recovery from a double hernia operation.

Harton, who played for both Arsenal and Celtic during his playing career, has backed Tierney to make a major impression in English football and believes the 22-year-old left-back is superior defensively to fellow Scotland left-back and Liverpool star Robertson.

“People talk about Andy Robertson. I would say at this moment in time he has better delivery but Kieran is a better defensive player,” the former Wales forward told the Daily Record.

“Kieran gets low and defends well and he can also play as wing-back if needed. I watched Robertson when he was playing for Dundee United when I was covering the game and he was good.

“He went down to Hull and his career fizzled out there but Liverpool took him for £10milion and now he is on fire.”
