Barcelona are considering a move to sign Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie as the club look to strengthen a depleted defence.
Hincapie is a name on the club’s radar as Barcelona navigate a period without Andreas Christensen, Eric García and Xavi Espart.
The Ecuador international was a key part of Arsenal’s Premier League success last season, but has lost his place as a regular during the current campaign. Hincapie has played just 46 minutes of Premier League football this season across four substitute appearances, with Riccardo Calafiori preferred at left-back.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona are eyeing a move. The 24-year-old’s ability to operate at left-back or in central defence appeal to sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick.
Hincapie joined Arsenal on an initial season-long loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 and made 39 appearances across all competitions last season. The transfer was made permanent for a £45m fee last summer.
Barcelona would need to make a sale before financing a move, with Alejandro Balde the likeliest option for sale, amid Premier League interest and a peripheral role. Barcelona are also considering Lisandro Martinez, who is out of contract at Manchester United and unsettled.
