90s Football Hall of Fame: Newcastle United’s ‘Mad Monk’, Temur Ketsbaia

He came, he saw, he clattered the advertising hoardings.

Temur Ketsbaia is most well known by Premier League fans for his bizarre outburst when ‘celebrating’ his winning goal against Bolton Wanderers in 1998.

But the ‘Mad Monk’ did other things during his three-year stint at Newcastle United, such as throwing a mobile phone at Sir Bobby Robson during an argument. Or going hell for leather during a paintballing session and shouting “TAKE THAT MOTHERF*CKERS” at his teammates.

In the latest episode of the 90’s Football Hall of Fame podcast, we were joined by football writer Ste Tudor to talk about these incidents and maybe some football. We discuss his knack for sensational strikes, dramatic Champions League heroics on his debut, and why he’s such cult hero for Newcastle fans.
