Zinedine Zidane was arguably the defining player of his generation, a footballer who won almost every major honour in the game and captivated fans with a unique and elegant style.
Zidane was the inspiration as France became world champions for the first time in 1998, netting twice in the 3-0 final victory over Brazil as Les Bleus won a maiden World Cup on home soil.
The midfielder was also the star turn of a formidable Juventus side at the turn of the millennium, before the bright lights of the Bernabeu came calling as Real Madrid made Zidane the most expensive footballer of all time in 2001.
Zidane arrived as the latest Galactico addition with huge expectations, and delivered in some style over five seasons in the Spanish capital, including a stunning final winner to seal Champions League success in his maiden season.
It is difficult to remember any player as easy on the eye as Zidane, a player with a perfect first touch and supernatural ability to create space and slow time when in the confines of a football pitch.
Here are some of Zinedine Zidane’s best goals for Real Madrid.
