Juninho’s stunning solo goal against Marseille

Juninho Pernambucano ranks as one of the greatest players in Lyon’s history and is a player many regard as the best free-kick taker of all time.

The abiding memory of the wonderfully gifted Brazilian is his penchant for spectacular goals from set-piece situations, but there was plenty more to the midfielder’s game than just fabulous free-kicks.

Juninho scored a century of goals during a trophy-laden eight-year spell at Lyon, winning seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles and being named as the division’s Player of the Season in 2005/06.

The previous season saw the midfielder score a superb solo goal during a clash with Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome, a moment of magic as the star feigns past a succession of challenges before firing home to secure a 1-0 in.

Here is Juninho’s brilliant individual effort against Marseille.
