David Villa’s phenomenal goalscoring record earned the forward a dream move to Barcelona, where he formed part of arguably the greatest side club football has seen.
Villa’s prolific exploits at Real Zaragoza and Valencia attracted the interest of Barcelona in 2010, who spent around €40m to prise the Spain international from the Mestalla.
The forward had formed part of Spain’s Golden Generation of talent that won both Euro 2008 and the World Cup two years later and the move to Barcelona provided Villa with a chance to win major trophies at club level.
Forming a potent front three alongside Lionel Messi and Pedro, he scored 48 goals in just 119 appearances for the Catalans across three seasons, winning a Champions League and La Liga double during his maiden season at the Camp Nou.
Villa scored an impressive 371 goals across his club career, in addition to netting a record-breaking 59 times in 98 appearances for the Spanish national side.
