Amongst finest talents of his generation and an all-time great of Portuguese football, Luis Figo starred at the highest level for some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Figo was the first signing of the Galactico era at Real Madrid in the early 2000s, making one of the most controversial transfers in history after leaving arch-rivals Barcelona for the Spanish capital in a world-record deal.
The midfielder had starred for the Catalan side to establish himself as one of the best players in world football, the cross-rivalry transfer coming in the midst of a year the Portuguese playmaker would be crowned winner of the Ballon d’Or.
Figo had won seven trophies with Barcelona including two league titles before his defection, where across five seasons with Real he would thrive in a star-studded side containing illustrious names such as Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and David Beckham.
Winner of two further league titles and the Champions League during his time with Los Blancos, Figo departed for Inter Milan having established himself as one of the most influential players of Real’s modern history.
