Ole Gunnar Solskjaer press conference

Solskjaer: Manchester United ‘won’t spend money just to spend money’

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United won’t ‘spend money just to spend money’ this summer.

Solskjaer was announced as the club’s next permanent manager on Thursday, and it has been reported that the 46-year-old will be given significant funds to strengthen the squad this summer.

United have been linked with big-money moves for the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane in recent weeks, however, Solskjaer says the club will not spend big for the sake of it.

“United is a club that has money, and that has to be spent in a reasonable way,” Solskjaer told the Norwegian media.

“People who know me, know that I will use that in a good way.

“We have a plan with the club, they have scouted players for longer than I have been here, and we have players that we need to keep.

“We will not spend money just to spend money.”
