Manchester United have made Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane their top summer transfer targets.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as the club’s new permanent manager on Thursday, and is set to be heavily backed by the club’s board this summer.
According to the Independent United have prioritised the signings of Sancho and Varane as big-money additions to the squad.
19-year-old Sancho has shone since leaving Manchester City for Germany in 2017, establishing himself as one of the most promising young talents in European football.
No player in Europe’s top five leagues has more assists this season than Sancho’s 12, with the winger being capped four times by England since making his senior debut last year.
Any deal for Sancho would likely cost in the region of £80m, though Dortmund would be unwilling to sanction the sale of their prized asset.
Varane has long been rumoured as a Manchester United target, though any speculation he could leave Madrid has often been dismissed.
There has been a growing optimism in recent months that United could finally land their man, though any deal for the French World Cup winner would likely eclipse the £75m world-record fee for a defender that Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk in 2018.
