Villa boss Smith looking to see a ‘reaction’ against Wolves after Sheffield United defeat

Dean Smith says he is looking to see a ‘reaction’ from Aston Villa against Wolves following the club’s disappointing defeat at Sheffield United in midweek.

Villa’s hopes of securing European football were dealt a huge blow following a poor performance in defeat at Bramall Lane on Wednesday evening, David McGoldrick’s first-half goal securing a 1-0 win and victory for the Premier League’s bottom side.

The loss leaves Villa ninth in the division, seven points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea and the Champions League places with two games in hand on the west London outfit.

Villa host Wolves in the Premier League tomorrow evening as they bid to return to winning ways, and Smith says he is looking for a reaction from his side as they seek to reignite their push for continental qualification.

“It was a disappointing result, unfortunately we didn’t take our big chances on the night,” Smith told his pre-match press conference.

“There was a lot of frustration, but we reviewed the game and the lads are still in a good place.”

“We want to be as consistent as we can and we want reactions when we don’t perform well.”

Villa will hope to have Jack Grealish available after the midfielder missed the club’s clashes with Leeds and Sheffield United through injury, though both Matty Cash and Kortney Hause remain absentees.

Wesley is also not expected to feature despite the forward’s recent return to first-team training following a cruciate knee ligament injury.
