Remembering when Frank Lampard became Chelsea’s record goalscorer

Frank Lampard became one of the Premier League’s greatest players during a career of huge success at Chelsea, signing for the club from rivals West Ham before becoming arguably the Blues’ best player of the modern era.

Lampard won three league titles and the Champions League amongst his major honours, developing a reputation as the finest goalscoring midfielder of his generation after perfecting the art of arriving late into the box.

So good was the midfielder at timing his runs forward from deep, just four players have ever scored more Premier League goals than Lampard – a truly staggering statistic given his position on the pitch.

Lampard also holds the record for most goals ever scored in a Chelsea shirt, eclipsing Bobby Tambling’s landmark with a brace against Aston Villa in May 2013.

Here is the moment that Lampard became Chelsea’s all-time record scorer.
