The Premier League players with the most non-penalty goals per 90 so far this season

The Premier League is chock full of tremendous goalscoring talent with some of the world’s best forwards calling the English top flight home.

Erling Haaland and Mo Salah currently top the scoring charts on 14 goals each, but what happens when you strip away penalties?

Dominic Solanke leads the way with 12 open play goals, squeaking ahead of Haaland’s 11. He’s joint-second with Jarrod Bowen and Son Heung-min.

Meanwhile, Salah drops down to fifth – only Cole Palmer (5) has scored more goals from spot kicks in the Premier League this season than the Egyptian winger (4).

To find out who have been the most prolific strikers during their time on the pitch this term, we’ve unearthed the players with the most goals from open play per 90 minutes.

Most non-penalty goals per 90 in the Premier League in 23/24:

5. Richarlison

NPG per 90: 0.65

Minutes: 1,096

Yes, really. After enduring poor back-to-back campaigns, Richarlison underwent surgery last year and it seems to have done the Brazilian the world of good. He’s scored eight goals in 2023/24, none of which have been penalties, from just 14 starts. The former Everton man also tends to get subbed off early, boosting his per 90 stats.

4. Elijah Adebayo

NPG per 90: 0.73

Minutes: 985

Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo has rocketed up to fourth in this list after his hat-trick against Brighton this week. That’s brought his tally up to an impressive eight goals – even though manager Rob Edwards has only handed him 11 starts this season.

3. Erling Haaland

NPG per 90: 0.75

Minutes: 1,313

This might be the only player on this list with no qualifiers or asterisks attached; Erling Haaland is simply a goal machine, even when you take penalties out of the equation. To find the net from open play at a rate of almost once per game after 1,313 minutes of action is phenomenal. Injury has kept him sidelined since December, but we doubt his stats would be any less impressive had he played during that period.

2. Chris Wood

NPG per 90: 0.82

Minutes: 874

If you thought Chris Wood’s best days were behind him, well, we’re not going to say you were wrong, but the Nottingham Forest striker has probably made you look a little foolish at the very least. The New Zealander has enjoyed a purple patch recently, scoring five goals in his last five matches and eight across the season. Three of those came against former side Newcastle United, which must have felt exquisitely sweet for the target man.

1. Diogo Jota

NPG per 90: 0.87

Minutes: 824

Jamie Carragher believes that Diogo Jota might just the best finisher Liverpool have ever had in the Premier League, which is an enormous statement to make when you think back on the likes of Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Fernando Torres and Mo Salah – but the numbers might back the pundit up. After all, the Portuguese attacker is scoring a goal once every 100 minutes or so in the Premier League.

Even though Jota is coming off the back of injury, you still feel confident about backing him to score in any given game.
