Paul Merson believes only a win will do for Liverpool as they prepare to face Tottenham this weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s league leaders face Spurs at Anfield on Sunday, in a clash which could have huge implications at the top end of the Premier League.
Liverpool currently lead second-placed Manchester City by two points, having played a game more, and could find themselves behind Pep Guardiola’s side by the time they kick-off on Sunday.
City travel to struggling Fulham on Saturday lunchtime, knowing a win at Craven Cottage will return them to the summit.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Sunday’s clash with Spurs is a must-win for Liverpool, with dropped points perhaps proving crucial as the title race enters its run in.
‘The pressure is going to be on Liverpool, draws are no good with Manchester City in front,’ Merson told Sky Sports.
‘It’s going to be a tight, entertaining game with Liverpool needing to win adding another layer – if Liverpool are drawing with 20 minutes to go they have to go for it.
‘But I think they will get the job done, cranking up the pressure on Spurs in the race for the top four.’
