Liverpool reportedly have ‘no interest’ in trying to sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish this summer, despite recent reports linking the European and world champions with a move for the in-demand midfielder.
Grealish has attracted interest from some of the Premier League‘s leading clubs following some starring displays for Aston Villa this season, the 24-year-old having scored eight goals and provided a further five assists in all competitions.
Reports this week emerged that Liverpool had joined the growing list of admirers ahead of a potential move this summer, though according to the Liverpool Echo, such speculation is well wide of the mark.
According to the report, the Reds turned down the opportunity to sign Grealish when offered the player by Villa in the summer of 2018, the Midlands outfit desperate to raise funds after a failed attempt to win promotion to the Premier League.
Grealish was also reportedly offered for transfer again last summer, though the Merseyside club were similarly disinterested during a quiet window of recruitment for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Manchester United have been strongly linked with a deal for Grealish in recent weeks as they seek to solve their lack of midfield creativity, whilst Tottenham are credited as long term admirers of the boyhood Villa fan.
Villa’s hopes of holding onto their skipper will likely rest on their ability to maintain their Premier League status, the club currently sitting in the relegation places after last weekend’s humiliating 6-1 home defeat to Manchester City.
