Klopp gives Liverpool injury update ahead of Merseyside Derby

Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Liverpool’s absent stars ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Merseyside Derby clash with Everton.

Liverpool face Everton in a huge meeting between the two Merseyside rivals tomorrow evening, with the two sides separated by just one place and three points in the race to secure a top four finish and Champions League qualification.

Klopp’s side have struggled in recent weeks and head into the contest having lost their past three league fixtures, though responded with an important 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League’s last-16 in midweek.

The German’s options have been limited by a number of injuries and Klopp has now provided an update on his squad ahead of the visit of the Toffees, revealing Naby Keita has returned to training this week and will be assessed ahead of the clash.

The game will come too soon for Fabinho, however, who has failed to recover from a muscular injury with Jordan Henderson and Ozan Kabak expected to continue at centre-back, whilst James Milner and Diogo Jota will also both be absent despite the duo edging closer to a first-team return.

“Naby trained with the team so we have to see what we make of it,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.

“Fabinho, no. He was not in training. Millie [Milner] and Diogo are getting closer but not close enough for the weekend.

“But there is nothing really new.”

Liverpool have dropped to sixth in the Premier League after just two wins in their past 10 league fixtures, the Reds currently two points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea ahead of tomorrow’s clash.
