Klopp calls for consistency from Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has called for consistency from Liverpool ahead of the club’s clash with Chelsea this weekend.

Liverpool have endured a tough start to the new year and have suffered back-to-back Premier League losses to Brentford and Brighton, with the Reds embarrassed 3-0 against the latter last weekend in a performance that Klopp called the worst of his managerial career.

Liverpool returned to winning ways in midweek with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Wolves in the FA Cup. Klopp was pleased with the display from his side at Molineux and has called on the Merseysiders to find consistency and defend as a unit.

Klopp’s side are ninth in the Premier League table and ten points adrift of the Champions League places. Chelsea arrive one point behind Liverpool following a difficult season of their own.

Ahead of the clash, Klopp was asked what he is looking for from his side across the second half of the Premier League season.

“Consistency, in a good way. We have to defend to an incredibly high level, which will allow us to create chances,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“The game against Wolves is a good example. That looked like what we have to do; we have to defend together. Everybody. It is nothing to do with style; if you have the deepest defence and you’re all together, that’s intense.”

Klopp was asked for his opinion on Graham Potter’s tough start at Chelsea and discussed how he dealt with the early pressure of his Liverpool reign.

“I was blessed then because I didn’t speak much English, I didn’t understand what was said!

“I tried to get used to it; if the owners aren’t happy they’ll tell you, so I didn’t worry too much I just kept working. I know Graham will do that. To work for a big club is a massive task; you ignore the size in the best way possible. There is no advice I can give and he doesn’t need it; he’s a fantastic coach.”
