Kieran Tripper has reportedly told his England teammates that he ‘wants’ to move to Manchester United this summer.
Trippier has been linked with a return to the Premier League this summer with the Red Devils understood to be interested in signing the right-back from Atletico Madrid, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks to strengthen his options ahead of the new campaign.
The England international moved to the Spanish capital from Tottenham in a £20m deal two years ago and has impressed since making the switch, forming part of the side that won the La Liga title during the 2020/21 season.
Trippier remains an integral part of Diego Simeone’s side, though the Sun are reporting that the 30-year-old is open to a return to England and his native North-West should an offer arrive from Old Trafford.
The Bury-born right-back came through the academy system at Manchester City and has reportedly told teammates within the England camp that he would welcome the opportunity to return to the North West.
Trippier’s arrival would provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back with the two possessing differing attributes, the former’s providing the creativity that has been accused of lacking from Wan-Bissaka’s game.
Solskjaer is also understood to be considering trialling Wan-Bissaka in a more central role, given his defensive strengths and the prospect of Tripper arriving from Atletico.
The report adds that United believe they can persuade the Spanish champions to part with the defender for a fee of around £15m-£20m.
