Just as Manchester United fans thought some of their defensive problems had been solved by the £80 million signing of Harry Maguire, Roy Keane has admitted he has some worries about the defender.
The former Manchester United captain has made a number of headlines this week, refusing to dampen his long-standing feud with Sir Alex Ferguson, as well as making some pretty shocking comments about Ireland’s Jonathan Walters at an event in his homeland.
Now, speaking as a pundit ahead of England’s 4-0 win over Bulgaria, Keane was asked about how Harry Maguire has settled in at Old Trafford, with the Corkman saying that while he has done ‘ok’, he has been left ‘worried’ by some elements of his defending.
“I think he has done OK,” said Keane on ITV.
“I remember the first goal against Crystal Palace and he wasn’t doing his best covering his other centre-half. Listen, he’s 26 years of age now. You’re worried if you’re pointing these things out to him.”
The worlds most expensive defender helped Manchester United to a clean sheet on his debut, a 4-0 win over Chelsea, though the Red Devils haven’t won or kept a clean sheet in the three games since.
