Every club to have fallen from the Premier League to League One

The fall from the Premier League all the way to League One is a hard, painful one to endure, as Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town learned this week.ย

Both clubs were relegated from the Championship to the third tier on Saturday, but it wasn’t so long ago that they were gracing the top flight with their presence.

The 13 years since the Blues were last in the Premier League (and winning the League Cup) have flown by, while the Terriers were there as recently as 2019.

They join a rather lengthy list of clubs who have dropped down the divisions over the past 32 years (yes, we do realise there was football before 1992), which includes some of the biggest names in English football.

Of course, it’s not the end of the world. Ipswich Town showed it’s possible to bounce back with a bang, earning successive promotions to return to the Premier League after 23 years away. Leeds United and Sheffield United have also shown it’s possible to claw your way back, but City and Town will be hoping to avoid the fate of Oldham, who play non-League football these days.

There are some teams on this list that may surprise you, while we haven’t dared to include Milton Keynes Dons, previously known as Wimbledon FC, for obvious reasons.
