Europa League group stage draw – Leicester, West Ham, Celtic and Rangers learn fate

The draw for the Europa League’s group stages has been made with Leicester and West Ham learning their opponents for the campaign.

Leicester are in the Europa League for a second successive season after reaching the round of 32 in 2020/21 and the Foxes venture in this season’s competition will begin with clashes against Napoli, Leicester City, Spartak Moscow and Legia Warsaw in a challenging group.

West Ham return to continental competition for the first time since 2016/17 and were seeded in pot three for the draw, the Hammers drawn to face Dinamo Zagreb – beaten in the Champions League play-offs by Moldovan side Sheriff – Genk and Rapid Vienna in Group H.

The Premier League duo will be joined in the Europa League group stages by both Celtic and Rangers with Scotland’s representative sides both seeded second.

Rangers – who lost a Champions League play-off to Malmo – will face Lyon, Sparta Prague and Brondby, as the Scottish champions look to improve on last season’s showing in which the Gers reached the Round of 16 under Steven Gerrard.

Celtic have made a strong start under new manager Ange Postecoglou and beat AZ Alkmaar in a play-off to reach this stage. Their reward for beating the Eredivisie side, however, is a group tough containing Bayer Leverkusen, Real Betis and Ferencvaros.
