Chelsea are set to seal the loan capture of Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to reports in the Spain this evening.
25-year-old Croatia international Kovacic moved to the Bernabeu for £25 million in 2015 from Inter Milan, but rather unsurprisingly he has struggled to dislodge Los Blancos superb midfield triumphant of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Casemiro.
Kovacic announced before the World Cup that he would be looking to leave the Spanish capital this summer in search of regular first-team football and he has since been heavily linked with every member of the Premier League top six, although he is said to have refused the chance to move to Manchester United due to Jose Mourinho’s defensive style of play.
As we reported yesterday the talented midfielder had refused to train with Real until his future was resolved, and according to Marca his desire to leave the Spanish capital has now been granted, with the player set to join Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea on a one year loan deal.
It has been a big few hours for the Stamford Bridge outfit with reports suggesting that they have also agreed a £70 million deal with Athletic Bilbao for the signing of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Spain international’s move to Chelsea is expected to result in the Blues allowing their current number one Thibaut Courtois to join Real Madrid in a £35 million deal.
