In what has been a dramatic week for Real Madrid, the Spanish giants have been further rocked by the news the highly rated midfielder Mateo Kovacic wants to leave the club in search of first team football.
Immediately after Los Blancos secured a record breaking 13th European Crown last weekend against Liverpool, the club’s fans were shocked by revelations that both Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo want to leave the Bernabeu this summer. Then of course came the unexpected resignation of Real’s coach Zinedine Zidane just a few days ago, which has thrown the club into turmoil.
However, the bad news does not seem to have stopped there, with Croatia international Kovacic admitting he is ready to leave the Spanish Capital.
“I believe I’ll play more, whether in Real or somewhere else.
“Now is the time for me to play.
“Offers? I am under contract with Real and I wish not to comment on other clubs.”
Kovacic joined Real from Inter Milan for £25 million in 2015, but he has understandably struggled for game time with the superb Luka Modric and Toni Kross ahead of him in the pecking order at the Bernabeu.
However, when the 24-year-old has played he has shown why he is one of the most highly rated young midfielders in Europe, posting ridiculous statistics of completing 30 out of 31 take ons and only misplacing 40 out of 608 passes.
Manchester United, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for Kovacic in the past and news of his desire to move on in search of regular game time is set to spark a transfer scramble amongst England’s elite clubs.
