Chelsea determined to keep Hudson-Odoi as Dortmund show interest

Chelsea are determined to keep highly-rated youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi, amid interest from Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old enjoyed his most productive season-to-date last term, netting five goals in 37 games across all competitions, having featured both as part of the front three but also in a right-wing berth under new boss Thomas Tuchel.

Despite starting the UEFA Super Cup win over Villarreal earlier this month, however, the England international is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, with the sheer number of forward options looking likely to see his gametime restricted.

While it has been four years since he made his Chelsea debut, the winger has struggled for a consistent run in the side, partly due to injury, and has long been linked with a departure from Stamford Bridge.

There had been reports in recent years of concrete interest from Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga giants said to have bid for his services in January 2019 and the following summer, yet the versatile forward has remained at Stamford Bridge to fight for his place.

Tipped to be a key man for the club in the long-term, the west London outfit are determined to keep hold of the player, yet he is reportedly the subject of interest from Bayern’s rivals Borussia Dortmund, as per Goal.

The report suggests that the German club are pursuing a loan deal before the window closes and are one of a number of suitors keen to sign him.

That being said, both Tuchel and Chelsea share the belief that the youngster should stay at the club for the remainder of the season, despite the German’s arrival having seen his involvement reduced towards the latter stages of last term.

Hudson-Odoi was forced to suffer the embarrassment of being double-substituted by his new boss in a clash with Southampton back February, having entered the fray at half-time only to be withdrawn half an hour later.

The report outlines that the academy product has also bemused the club with his decision to refuse selection for the England under-21 side’s upcoming fixtures, having previously picked up three caps at senior level.

As for Dortmund, new boss Marco Rose is seemingly on the hunt for a new forward addition, following the departure of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United earlier this summer and with Erling Haaland’s future still up in the air amid rumoured interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
