Chelsea have undoubtedly been one of the greatest club’s of the Premier League era. So we thought we’d take a look at The Blues five highest Premier League appearances makers ever …
Branislav Ivanovic – 261 appearances
Ivanovic played for the Blues between 2008 – 2017 after joining from Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow. The Serbia international was originally signed as a centre-halve but ended up playing most of his football for Chelsea as a right-back. He was rock solid in defensive and had a knack for popping up with important goals in big games.
Ivanovic was a key player during the most successful period in the Blues history, winning three Premier Leagues, three FA Cups, the UEFA League and the Champions League.
Dennis Wise – 261 appearances
Tied on the exact same amount of Blues appearances as Ivanovic is the club’s former captain and fan favourite Dennis Wise, who represented the Stamford Bridge club between 1990-2001.
Wisey as he was known was renowned for being one of the hardest tacklers in the Premier League, although he was also a fine footballer, who possessed superb technical ability.
His time with Chelsea would come before the injection of Roman Abramovich’s millions, although he still managed to win two FA Cups, the League Cup and the now defunct European Cup Winner’s Cup.
Petr Cech – 333 appearances
The £7 million Chelsea paid French side Rennes for young goalkeeper Petr Cech in 2004, will surely go down in history as one of the most astute pieces of business the club has ever done.
The Czech Republic international was the Blues number one for over a decade, and will rightly be remembered as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever goalkeepers. In his prime the hugely talented Cech was the very definition of ”nine point a season keeper.”
Much of Chelsea’s success over his decade with the club was due to his brilliance between the sticks. He then left the Blues to join Arsenal in 2015, for whom he still plays.
Although he plays for one of the Chelsea’s main London rivals, he still receives a warm reception whenever he returns to Stamford Bridge, which is a testament to how highly rated he is by the club’s fans.
Frank Lampard – 429 appearances
Lampard joined Chelsea from West Ham in 2001 and went on to become one of Chelsea’s greatest ever players and one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.
The former England international was a box-to-box midfielder who posted scoring and assist figures better than most elite level strikers. Lampard was also renowned for his dedication and professionalism throughout his career.
He is Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer with 211 goals, which is an unbelievable achievement for a midfield player. He was an integral part of Chelsea’s team for almost 15 years, and won three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups and the Champions League during his time at Stamford Bridge.
John Terry – 492 appearances
Captain, Leader, Legend. That’s what the famous banner that hangs in Stamford Bridge proudly proclaims about John Terry.
The former Blues captain was an inspirational leader during the most successful period of the club’s history. As a player Terry was the perfect blend of old school defender and accomplished ball playing centre-back.
As well as being the club’s record appearance maker, he is also the club’s most decorated player winning five Premier League titles with the club.
Many expect Mr.Chelsea to return to the club as a manager or coach in the not too distant future.
