Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes is set for a bumper new deal that will see the playmaker double his money following another superb campaign.
The 26-year-old has been in stellar form ever since his arrival from Sporting CP in January 2020, going on to help guide the club to a top-four finish last term, before spearheading another improved campaign which has seen United secure second-spot this season.
Since making the switch from his native Portugal, Fernandes has registered a remarkable 26 goals and 19 assists in just 51 Premier League games, while he’s also currently on 28 goals for the season in all competitions with two games still left to play.
The attacking midfielder has swiftly become the main man at Old Trafford and has even been handed the captain’s armband of late following the absence of usual skipper Harry Maguire through injury.
Such is his importance to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, the Mirror are reporting that Manchester United are already set to make moves to improve Fernandes’ terms, the player in line to see his current wage doubled.
The report suggests that the player’s agent, Miguel Pinto, arrived in Manchester on Tuesday in order to discuss a contract extension that would see the Portuguese midfielder earning £200,000-a-week.
The Red Devils are said to be keen to get the deal done prior to this summer’s European Championships, Fernandes set to be a key part of Fernando Santos’ side, who are looking to retain the title they won back in 2016.
The desire to see the player pen a new deal has perhaps been sparked by the ongoing saga involving Paul Pogba, the Frenchman set to enter into the final year of his current deal, leaving the club in a difficult position regarding whether to sell this summer, or risk allowing him to leave for free next year, should he not commit his future to Manchester.
