Steve Bruce admits it is a ‘wonderful time’ to play Manchester United as Newcastle prepare to host Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side at St James’ Park this weekend.
Newcastle face United on Sunday looking to bounce back from last week’s 5-0 humbling at Leicester, with the Magpies currently second bottom of the Premier League after winning just once in their opening seven league fixtures.
Despite their struggling start to the season, Bruce admits he is relishing taking on his former club and believes a sold-out St James Park clash with Manchester United is the perfect fixture for his side to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment.
“We are going to have to be at our best and a lot better than we were last week,” Bruce said at his pre-match press conference.
“I am hoping we show a response to the supporters because we let everyone down last week.
“It is a wonderful time to play them because it will be a full house, live on the TV. If ever we needed to bounce back against anybody, what better way than against them.”
Considering Manchester United’s dismal away form (no away wins in 10), he could be right.
