Barcelona’s preference is for Antoine Griezmann to move to the Premier League with Chelsea said to be the ‘most active’ side in monitoring the forward’s situation.
Barcelona’s concerning financial situation could lead to an exodus of players this summer in a bid to cut costs, with the Spanish side currently unable to register newly-signed players – including Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay – until their wage bill is reduced.
Griezmann has been linked with an exit with former club Atletico Madrid reportedly interested in re-signing the France international, though Sport are reporting that the Catalans are wary of strengthening a domestic rival and would prefer to see him leave to a club in England or Italy.
Barcelona allowed Luis Suarez to sign for Atletico in a cut-price deal last summer, only for the Uruguay international to prove to be an inspirational figure after scoring 21 league goals as the capital club beat both Real Madrid and Barca to the La Liga title in 2020/21.
The same outlet reported on Sunday that Griezmann was keen on a return to Atletico should he leave the Camp Nou this summer, though the Spaniards are unable to afford either the transfer fee or player’s salary.
Barcelona are instead hopeful of selling the 30-year-old to a club outside of Spain and Chelsea are understood to be the ‘most active’, whilst Manchester United, Manchester City are also ‘following the situation’.
Barcelona are keen to offload the Frenchman as they seek the necessary funds to re-sign Lionel Messi, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner currently a free agent after his contract at the Camp Nou expired this month.
