Ayew: Getting basics right earned Palace victory over Aston Villa

Jordan Ayew says getting the basics right helped Crystal Palace beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Ayew scored the only goal of the game against his former club as Roy Hodgson’s side secured back-to-back wins, overcoming a resilient Aston Villa side who played the majority of the second half with ten men following Trézéguet’s dismissal for a second bookable offence.

Palace had looked to be heading towards another stalemate until Ayew’s intervention, the Ghana international firing an instinctive finish past Tom Heaton to seal victory.

The win moves the Eagles up to fourth in the Premier League table after taking seven points from their opening four fixtures, and Ayew believes his side deserved the three points following another impressive performance.

“We played very well and deserved the victory,” the striker said after scoring for the second successive game.

“We did the basics right and were rewarded at the end. It’s difficult for us to win games at home but today we did and we have to take one step at a time.”
