Houssem Aouar has opened up on the transfer speculation surrounding him this summer and insists he is far from ‘disappointed’ despite missing out on a move to Arsenal.
The Lyon midfielder was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates as Mikel Arteta sought to strengthen his options this summer, but despite several negotiations, a move failed to materialise with the north London side failing to meet the Ligue 1 side’s asking price.
Arsenal instead turned their attentions to another leading target in Thomas Partey, with the Atletico Madrid star signing in a £45m deal on the final day of the transfer window.
Aouar has been asked about his failed move to the Premier League but insists he is not disappointed a potential transfer fell through, revealing his focus is firmly on enjoying a good season with Lyon as the club look to bounce back from a disappointing domestic campaign last term.
“Of course I asked myself all the necessary questions,” he said following France’s 7-1 win over Ukraine.
“I am in the headspace to have a great season with my club and get back the points that we have lost.
“So of course we are going to try to do the best season and to try to put the team and the club back in its rightful place, at the top of France.
“Disappointed? I am the opposite. I am at home, in the club that I love, with my friends and my family.
“So certainly I have all my bearings and it is giving me even more motivation to have a good season and to bring the club back into the top places in France.”
