The clubs and countries with the most Ballon d’Or winners

Where does England rank following Harry Kane's win?

Harry Kane is the fourth different Bayern Munich player to win the Ballon d’Or award, taking the club’s number of wins to six.

It is also the sixth time an Englishman has taken home the prestigious prize in its history, with five English players receiving it since Sir Stanley Matthews won the inaugural award 70 years ago. Kevin Keegan is the only one to win it twice.

England has now moved up to sixth on the list of countries with the most Ballon d’Or wins, behind France, Argentina, Germany, Netherlands and Portugal. Of course, those numbers would be very different had non-Europeans been eligible to win it before 1995; Brazil and Argentina, for instance, would have far more wins if it had always been open to the entire world.

Only four clubs have more Ballon d’Or wins than Bayern, with Real Madrid and Barcelona leading the way on 12. Manchester United are the only English club with multiple wins (4).
