Sanchez’s Inter Milan move to depend on Martial injury

Alexis Sanchez’s hopes of securing a move to Inter Milan could hinge on the extent of Anthony Martial’s injury.

The Chile international has been strongly linked with a switch to the San Siro ahead of the closure of the European transfer window on September 2, having endured a disappointing spell since moving to Old Trafford in January 2018.

It is thought that Sanchez had been nearing a loan switch to Serie A, though Manchester United could pull the plug on the move amid fears Martial has sustained a significant thigh problem.

Martial was seen limping during the closing stages of United’s surprise defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, with the club now awaiting the results of a scan to determine the extent of the injury.

According to the Guardian, should the Frenchman be ruled out for a sustained period of time it could affect Sanchez’s move to Inter, with United likely to keep the 30-year-old to provide depth to their forward line.

United have already allowed Romelu Lukaku to leave for Inter Milan earlier this summer, and Martial’s absence would leave just Marcus Rashford, Daniel James as well as teenagers Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong as their forward options until at least January.
