Willian insists Chelsea can win titles this season despite transfer ban

Chelsea star Willian insists the club can still win titles this season despite their transfer ban.

New manager Frank Lampard’s recruitment plans were put on hold after receiving a FIFA-imposed two-window transfer ban, with Chelsea unable to register new players until summer 2020 after breaching rule regarding the signing of foreign minors.

While the Blues are unable to sign players, they also have to cope with the departures of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid and David Luiz to Arsenal, both players having featured regularly last season.

Despite seeing rival clubs bolster their squads this summer, new Chelsea number 10 Willian remains confident that the West London club will be competitive and should be looking to win silverware again this season.

“I think Chelsea can win some titles this season,” he told Sky Sports.

“I know it will be hard this season to win titles, as usual, it is always hard.

“It is difficult when you lose players like David Luiz, Eden Hazard, but we have some quality young players here who can improve a lot and in the future become one of the best players in the league. I think we have a great team.

“But Chelsea is a big club and this shirt is heavy. When Chelsea go into a competition we go to win.

“It does not matter the players, it does not matter the coach, every year we want to win something, and I think this year we can do it again.”
