Tuchel admits win over Man United would be ‘huge’ for Chelsea ahead of crucial run of games

Thomas Tuchel admits a win over Manchester United would ‘be huge’ for Chelsea ahead of a crucial run of games for his side.

Chelsea have enjoyed a strong start under the guidance of the new head coach and are unbeaten in eight games across all competitions, climbing back toward’s the Premier League’s top four and taking a huge step towards the Champions League quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in midweek.

Tuchel will be hoping to continue an impressive start to his reign at Stamford Bridge this weekend, with second-placed Manchester United the visitors to west London in a huge clash between the top-four rivals.

The German has spoken on his side’s progress ahead of a testing run of fixtures for the Blues, the visit of the Red Devils followed by clashes with Liverpool, Everton and Leeds before the return fixture against Atletico in the Champions League’s last 16.

Tuchel believes a win this weekend would be ‘huge’ for his side and their confidence moving forward, and a victory can move Chelsea within just three points of this weekend’s opponents.

“There was a London derby, a Champions League game against Madrid, and now Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton in the league, a series of big fixtures and challenges to overcome,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“But it’s exactly why we are here. We are looking forward to preparing the team to be ready on Sunday.

“If we get a win out of this game it will be huge for us. If they get a win it will be huge for them to put a difference between us.

“So let’s see. We are very aware. Today was not a day where we focus absolutely, today was the day to bring the group together and do a good training on the pitch. From tomorrow on we will be totally focused on this game.”
