Thomas Tuchel has provided updates on the fitness of influential midfield duo N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City.
Chelsea face the Premier League leaders at Wembley tomorrow evening, looking to put a halt to City’s quadruple chase and secure a place in the FA Cup final for a second successive season.
Tuchel’s side head into the contest having lost just two of 18 fixtures under the German’s management in all competitions, with confidence high ahead of what promises to be a fascinating encounter between two in-form sides.
Chelsea’s hopes have been boosted following confirmation that N’Golo Kante will be fit to return to the side, the midfielder having returned to the starting side against Porto in the Champions League in midweek after picking up an injury whilst on international duty last month.
There was, however, less positive news with Mateo Kovacic having been ruled out with a hamstring injury, the Croatia international joining Andreas Christensen on the sidelines for the Blues.
“We have the green light for N’Golo to play,” Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference.
“We had three days between which makes a huge difference for him.
“Mateo Kovacic is unfortunately still out, but feeling already better. Andreas Christensen is also out and cannot be in the squad.”
