The Premier League players with the most winning goals this season

There’s no better feeling in football than scoring a winning goal, but which Premier League players have been the hero most often this season?

Here, we look at the Premier League players with the most match-winning goals in 2023/24 to date.

John McGinn – Aston Villa (3)

Aston Villa are riding a wave of momentum right now, with Unai Emery’s side having propelled themselves into Champions League – and potential title – contention.

Villa have taken 81 points from 39 Premier League games in 2023 and have won 25 top-flight games in a calendar year for the first time in their history. John McGinn has been at the heart of the club’s fine form and has scored three match-winning goals this season, including the decider in the 1-0 win over Arsenal earlier this month.

Villa, who have won a club-record 15 consecutive home games, are just one point from the top.

Erling Haaland – Manchester City (3)

It’s perhaps unsurprising that the Premier League’s leading goalscorer features on this list.

Haaland has hit 14 goals in 15 appearances for Manchester City so far this season, leading the league for goals as he looks to retain the Golden Boot he won in record-breaking fashion last season.

Haaland scored 36 league goals in 2022/23, a record for a single season, and is aiming to become just the second player – after Alan Shearer – to reach 30+ goals in back-to-back Premier League campaigns.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (3)

Liverpool’s leading scorer has netted three match-winning goals so far this season, with Salah again setting the standard for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Egyptian has scored 11 league goals and recently passed 200 in all competitions in a Liverpool shirt, becoming just the fifth player to reach that return. The 31-year-old has also now scored 150 in the Premier League, equalling Michael Owen’s record and entering the all-time top 10.

Liverpool turned down big bids from the Saudi Pro League in the summer and with good reason. Salah leads the Premier League for goal involvements (18) alongside Erling Haaland. He will be key to the club’s chances of competing for the title.

Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United (3)

Bruno Fernandes has scored three goals in the Premier League this season, with each of the Manchester United midfielder’s efforts have turned out to be winning goals.

Fernandes scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot as Manchester United came from two goals down to beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 in August, before scoring the only goal of the game with a stunning strike against Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Portugal international’s most memorable moment came at Fulham, as his last-gasp goal earned the Red Devils a 1-0 win at Craven Cottage in November.

Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa (4)

No player has scored more match-winning goals than Ollie Watkins this season.

The Aston Villa forward has had a superb start to the season under Unai Emery, with his performances having earned the 27-year-old a recall to the England squad.

Watkins has scored nine goals and laid on six assists in 17 league games for Villa, with only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah involved in more goals in 2023/24.

After scoring the only goal at Chelsea and a crucial winner at Spurs, Watkins’ latest winning goal came last weekend, as the forward returned to haunt former club Brentford
