Brighton’s multi-functional midfielder remains one of the most under-appreciated players in the Premier League, a performer of admirable consistency and creative quality.
Gross has provided nine assists in the Premier League so far this season, the best return of his career in English football, having surpassed the eight goals he created in 2017/18, 2020/21 and 2022/23.
The 32-year-old’s productive returns have come despite inconsistency in his position this season, having operated at full-back and in various midfield roles. His adaptability and ability to fashion chances is crucial to the Seagulls, whose £3m investment has been a bargain.
=3. Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (9)
Mohamed Salah features highly for assists once again in 2023/24, with the Egyptian having laid on nine goals for his Liverpool teammates.
Salah, who won the Premier League’s Playmaker of the Season award in 2021/22, has now provided 68 career assists in the division, the highest return from an African footballer.
He came off the bench to set up Alexis Mac Allister in the weekend win at Brentford, with his return to fitness boosting Liverpool’s title hopes ahead of a crucial period in the campaign.

=3. Pedro Neto – Wolves (9)
Pedro Neto also recorded his ninth assist of the Premier League campaign this weekend, with a scintillating run setting up Joao Gomes in Wolves’ win at Tottenham.
Neto has bounced back from recent fitness issues to reemerge as one of the most exciting wide players in the Premier League, leading to suggestions of summer interest from clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham.
Wolves will demand a huge fee for the 23-year-old should offers arrive, with Neto having now provided nine assists in only 15 league starts. No player in the division can better his assist per 90-minutes ratio (0.61).
=1. Kieran Trippier – Newcastle (10)
Kieran Trippier is one of two players to have reached double figures for assists so far this season, in what has been the most productive campaign of the right-back’s career.
No defender has recorded more assists than the 33-year-old this season, while Trippier will be targeting Trent Alexander-Arnold’s record for most assists by a defender in a single campaign. The Liverpool full-back set up 13 goals during the Reds’ 2019/20 title-winning season.

Ollie Watkins tops the chart with Trippier, in a career-best campaign for the Aston Villa forward. Watkins has evolved into a complete centre-forward under Unai Emery and is firing the club’s push for Champions League qualification, having scored 13 goals in addition to his 10 assists.
Only Dwight Yorke (27) has ever been directly involved in more goals for Aston Villa in a single Premier League campaign.
