The five fastest players in the Premier League in 2023/24

After the conclusion of the 2023/24 Premier League season, we take a look at the key statistics from the campaign, including the fastest footballers in the league.

English football was home to some lightning players this season and we’ve ranked the top speeds recorded across the Premier League.

Here are the five fastest players in the Premier League in 2023/24.

5. Jakub Moder, Brighton – 36.84 km/h

Jakub Moder struggled for regular first-team football at Brighton this season but did his best to make an impact amid limited action.

The Poland international, who will represent his nation at Euro 2024 this summer, clocked a top speed of 36.84 km/h in 2023/24, the fifth-highest speed in the Premier League.

Moder, meanwhile, has been speeding on and off the pitch after recently losing his driving licence following a number of offences.

4. Pedro Neto, Wolverhampton Wanderers – 36.86 km/h

Pedro Neto provided a reminder of his class this season with the Wolves winger in scintillating form during the season’s early weeks.

Neto provided nine assists in just 18 Premier League starts in 2023/24, though it was another frustrating season for the Portugal international who missed long spells out injured. If the 24-year-old can avoid more bad luck with injury, he has the potential to reach the very top.

3. Anthony Elanga, Nottingham Forest – 36.91 km/h

Nottingham Forest signed Anthony Elanga last summer after the winger sought regular first-team football. A £15m recruit from Manchester United, the Swedish speedster has been a fine addition to the Forest ranks.

Elanga ended his debut campaign with five goals and nine assists and formed an excellent understanding with Chris Wood at the City Ground. There’s more to come from the 22-year-old, whose 36.91 km/h top speed was the third-highest in the Premier League.

2. Chiedozie Ogbene, Luton Town – 36.93 km/h

Chiedozie Ogbene was one of the success stories of Luton’s season with the winger proving he can cut it at the top level despite relegation for The Hatters.

A free transfer signing from Rotherham United last summer, Ogbene was a marauding presence down the right-hand side for Luton with his blistering pace causing countless problems for opposition teams.

The Republic of Ireland international ranked among the Premier League’s top players for successful take-ons (9th) and progressive carries (8th) last season.

1. Micky van de Ven, Tottenham Hotspur – 37.38 km/h

Spurs splashed out an initial £34.5m to sign Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg last summer and it has certainly proved to be money well spent.

The Dutch defender was named the club’s Player of the Season after a standout debut campaign in the Premier League, in which Van de Ven has caught the eye with his athleticism in Ange Postecoglou’s high-risk, high-reward defensive line.

Van de Ven eats up the ground at a rapid rate with his long stride and broke a Premier League record, previously held by Kyle Walker, for the fastest top speed clocked in the division after reaching 37.38 km/h with a recovery run against Brentford.

For context, the 23-year-old was only 0.20 km/h slower than Usain Bolt’s 100m world record set in 2009.

Incredible.
