The favourites to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot

Chris Wood just can’t stop scoring right now. The Nottingham Forest forward is up to eight for the season in the Premier League to help Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to the dizzying heights of third.

Wood’s wonderful start to the season has propelled Forest into the Champions League places and the 32-year-old into outside contention – with the bookmakers at least – for the Golden Boot.

Sure, stopping Erling Haaland from taking the top scorer gongs seems an almost impossible task but Wood sits second for goals in the Premier League right now.

For those interested in online betting nz and keen to back their countryman, we’ve ranked the current five favourites for the Premier League’s Golden Boot.

The favourites to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot

Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest (22/1)

Wood’s burst of goals to start the season have placed him as fifth favourite. He’s ahead of big names including Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Jackson and Alexander Isak in the current running, after scoring eight times in just 10 appearances.

Only Erling Haaland (11) has more goals than the New Zealander, while only Haaland can better his average of a Premier League goal every 101 minutes.

Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa (16/1)

Ollie Watkins produced the best season of his career to fire Aston Villa to a top-four finish and Champions League qualification last season.

Watkins scored 19 goals and laid on 13 assists, with the latter enough to earn him the Premier League’s Playmaker of the Season award. He’s aiming to join an exclusive group of players to have led the league for goals and assists, alongside the likes of Thierry Henry, Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane.

Cole Palmer – Chelsea (12/1)

Cole Palmer’s astonishing ascent to stardom last season culminated in the Chelsea midfielder earning the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

No player was directly involved in more goals than the 22-year-old in 2023/24, as Palmer scored 22 goals and created 11 more in his first full season in the Premier League.

He’s proven that form was no fluke, with seven goals and five assists already this time around.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (8/1)

Mohamed Salah is aiming to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot for a record-equalling fourth time this season.

The Egyptian topped the league for goals in 2018, 2019 and 2022 and could match ex-Arsenal great Thierry Henry with four accolades. Just three players have scored more than the 32-year-old’s seven goals so far this season.

Erling Haaland – Manchester City (1/5)

It will take some feat – or unforeseen circumstances – to stop Erling Haaland this season.

The Norwegian is aiming for a third consecutive Golden Boot, an achievement only previously accomplished by Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry. Given he’s now scored 74 goals in just 76 top-flight appearances since moving to the Etihad – he’ll take some stopping.
