Ten Hag calls on Man United attacker Rashford to be ‘more clinical’ after Europa League misses

Erik ten Hag has called on Marcus Rashford to be ‘more clinical’ after the forward’s wasteful performance against Omonia Nicosia.

United struggled to break down the Cypriot side and relied upon a stoppage-time winner from Scott McTominay to secure a 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

It was a frustrating night for Rashford who failed to build on a strong start to the season and Ten Hag has called on the 24-year-old to become more clinical around goal.

United have scored just 13 goals from their eight league fixtures this season, with only Bournemouth having scored less among the current top half. Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has scored 15 league goals alone this season, more than the entire Red Devils’ team combined.

“He (Rashford) did a lot of things well but finally he knows that he has to be more clinical and he had to score a goal,” Ten Hag said at his press conference ahead of United’s clash with Newcastle.

“When you have such good movements and make such good combinations, good actions, then you have to finish. I know sometimes it’s the game, it’s not your night and it’s about the form of the day, but it can change in another game.

“I think he’s in a really good run, that shows in the chances he creates. Now it’s two games he’s been a little unlucky. On Sunday he deserved a goal but they cancelled it, today he didn’t score. I say save it for the coming week.”
