Spurs linked with £51m move for Thomas Lemar

Tottenham are reportedly considering a move to sign Atletico Madrid star Thomas Lemar.

The North London side are monitoring the winger ahead of a potential move this month, with Jose Mourinho’s side said to be eyeing a loan move with an option to buy for a player who has fallen out-of-favour under Diego Simeone at the La Liga side.

According to the Independent, the deal would likely include a loan fee of around €6m, with an option to sign the player on a permanent basis for €60m should he impress during his spell in the Premier League.

The France international rose to prominence as part of the exciting, young Monaco side which reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2017, attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, before moving to the Spanish capital in a deal worth £52.7m.

Lemar’s time in Spain has proven to be one of disappointment, however, the winger having scored just three goals in 64 appearances and becoming an increasingly peripheral figure at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Atletico are now believed to be prepared to sanction his exit during the winter window, whilst Lemar is also keen on securing regular first-team football as he. bids to cement his position in the France squad ahead of next summer’s European Championships.

Spurs are likely to face competition to secure his signing, with Arsenal also amongst the clubs reportedly monitoring the 24-year-old’s current situation ahead of a potential move.
